Don’t ask me…

I have no idea what’s up with this site! Logan told me that it’s not allowing comments– so I changed it back yet again. Hopefully this time it sticks. Meanwhile I will keep trying to figure out blogspot so I can make the switch.

Until next time, a few pics of some of my favorite “little” ladies. (A.k.a. my cute dance students.)

Nikki, Moi, Olivia and Jillyn of the Texas side of dance. We went to the SYTYCD performance together. These gallys are so stinkin’ cute- they make me look …. old.

We were up in the nose bleeds- but it was still fab-u-lous.

Chris (or, according to Nigel, the “tree”) has been our “Prince” in ADA’s production of the Nutcracker the last few years. He, unfortunately, was not in the show that night… but we still felt fancy that such a celebrity was hanging out with us! You can see three new students here- Liza, Madison and Hattie.
And, many of you know that Chelsie H. was one of my most beloved students from Studio 1, and that I danced with Thayne on Odyssey. Seeing them dance was really so special. Especially Chelsie — you know how I feel about my students… she’s a very special girl to me. In fact, she called me right after the show- wondering if I was there. She is a doll and I just love her!

Then, up to the Utah side of dance, we have two of my long-time students and BFF’s Steviee and Starlee. I feel like these two are MINE! If I don’t end up having daughters, at least I have my dancers!

We went to “Thriller” together - and if you twist your head you can see that outside the theater they were advertising for my Pirate show. I hope you all can attend. It should be a winner, matey! The “lady pirates” sound especially interesting!

I dunno what’s more disturbing… the fact that I love hanging out with these darling girls who are over 10 years my juniors… or that I wore the same shirt to both events. I’ll have to think about this one.

ABORT MISSION!

(This post is not about my adorable nephew Matt Mo, I just thought this was such a cute picture, I would share it with y’all!)

Ok, I am not very good at this, but I have to come clean (so to speak).

“I was wrong - my child is NOT ready for early potty-training.”
There, I said it. Whew, I feel much better.

Well, after a few days of really hitting it hard, hoping that his enthusiasm would stay and that we could bite this in the diaper-free butt– I recognize that it is definitely too early.

It wasn’t that he lost his enthusiasm. I mean, when I would ask “do you need to use the potty” he usually said “No fanks…” but, then, he replies the same to “do you need a diaper change?” … even if it’s full of #2. He really prefers NOTHING interrupts his play time. So I wasn’t too worried about that. He likes trying - and loves to “toot toot” on the potty, and even made a few pees and poops. However, there is a deeper problem I found. He is simply not physiologically ready, i.e. he can’t hold his pee yet. Ha ha! T.M.I. probably, (Dan is going to scold me for sharing this) but I would have him walking around totally bottomless, and he would just PEE- on anything and everything in his path. It was kinda funny, mostly mortifying, and definitely MESSY. He would just look at me like “What do I do? This stuff just comes when it wants to!”

Then I read this article and I found that, indeed, he doesn’t make the list just yet. Honestly, it wasn’t even close.

Oh well, we’ll keep sittin’ on the pot a few times a day, just to keep him thinking about it. Here’s to procrastination with purpose!

What the?

So I am sitting at the dinner table conversing with some great friends when Luke comes up to me holding his potty seat (the top part that is detachable…) and says “potty!” I, being ever so nervous about the looming milestone of potty training, jump on the fact that he seems interested. “You need to go potty?” I ask. “Yes!” he answers.

I’m thinking “Sure, uh huh…” We’ve done this many nights before bath time. Sit and pretend push, then laugh hysterically. Except this time, it was HIS idea. Hmmmm…

To my UTTER shock and excitement, he sits down and for the first time ever, PEES ON THE FETCHIN’ POTTY! He even farted 3 times trying to push out a poop! I cannot believe it. To seal the deal I have Dan try to get him to go again before his bath- and he does!! But this time it’s a full bladder-full! We dump it in the big toilet and he does the honors of flushing the “yellow water” down.

WHAT?!?! I want to wonder and prod and ask why he suddenly decided that it’s now time to start peeing on the potty- no less that he suddenly understands exactly what he’s supposed to do….. but I don’t dare to tempt fate. He’s peeing on the potty, and I know better than to mess it up with my curiosities!

(Let’s face it, it may just be one fluke night. Only time will tell. I’ll update and let you know how things go!)

“Blah-g”

K, a while back I promised this was coming… so if you’re not interested in my blogging woes– well, scroll down and there are some really cute Halloween pics for you to enjoy!

First, let me please say that this is not in any way meant to offend or demean the blogging world and those of you who love it! Just a few personal thoughts about my blog experience I would like to share, in hopes that maybe someone out there feels the same and would like to have a buddy!

I read a friend’s blog a while back that read, and I quote:
“I’ve been suffering from a case of the blogging blahs…big time. I think it’s because I don’t want my blog to be my hobby for some reason, and I don’t want to experience my life through a blog lens. Does this make sense to anyone but me? You know those lists you see: “You know you’re a true blogger if…” and the list is composed of things like “you plan fun things to do just so you can blog about them” etc… So, when I start to notice that my reaction to things is to mentally spin them into the next blog post, I start to get bugged. So, what does this mean? I’m not sure. It’s probably just a phase I’m going through. It’s weird that adults go through phases just like toddlers do…do we ever stop?”

So, basically she took the words right out of my mouth. Lately I’m really trying to allow myself to live in the moment, especially with a toddler that is growing up way too fast! When I first came to Texas, blogging was like therapy. For whatever reason, it eased my homesickness and gave me something to look forward to. I admit it, I WOULD find myself spinning up blog posts, titles, pictures I could work in, stories I could tell… and I truly enjoyed it at that time. However, as I made it through the transition and started getting more and more busy in my new Texas life, I realized that it started to become a chore. I felt obligated to post something that would get a lot of comments (silly, I know) and I was putting pressure on myself to retain the blogging ’status’ I reached after moving here. I recognized that it was foolish of me to keep forcing it, and saw myself missing out on more important things. I needed to begin to enjoy the moments and experiences I have each day- rather than enjoying the fact that I was going to twist up a really cute, funny, or interesting post about it later.

So I kinda took a 180 for a while.

I know that blogging is a great blessing. It has kept me close to family, friends, and even given me a few new friends that I would have never met otherwise. It’s great for a family history, and since I hate to scrapbook…! But I guess I just needed to find my balance with it– and now if I go a few weeks without a post I am actually sort of pleased, because I know that I was out enjoying life, rather than in blogging about it.

Halloween “In the Vilderness”

Halloween 2008.
I don’t recall ever laughing so hard. Luke had me nearly peeing my ’stretchy pants’. Curses that I didn’t have a camcorder on the little twit.

He was so dang funny! It was so warm that we decided, in true Nacho style, to let him go shirtless.

Just running carelessly from house to house with that big pot belly hanging out… and he didn’t even so much as tug at that mask! He loved it!

When asked at each door by yours truly “what do you say?” I would get a resounding “PLEASE!” — “No, sweetie, you say trick…” — “TRIKKO-TWEET!”

We went with our BFF’s John, Brianne and boys. They were adorable (well, maybe “totally AWESOME looking” is more appropriate) ROCK STARS! And, yes, this is the best picture I got of all 3 of the boys together. It takes a magician.

Luke LOVES his Uncle “Don” (John) and would willingly walk holding hands with him between houses. It was really darling.

Dan and I decided to be party poopers and not dress up again…
This was actually a photo taken at the trunk-or-treat that I stole off the Frisco Moms Rock blog. Thanks Lisa! I was Nacho Lukey’s Spanish Mommy. Or something… I guess…….? Hey, at least now we know why I don’t have long black hair.
Dan was a fat referee for the fight, which was not documented by any pictures. Too bad- it was good stuff!

Well, I guess we’ll just be hangin’ around until next year! Happy Halloween!

KETCHUP! (tee hee)

Ok, so I AM setting up a blogspot… and although I know it must be easier and more user-friendly than my current program, when you are used to one thing — I think it’s 10 times harder to switch. But i know it will be worth it. Like when I switched from PC to a MAC. Took some time to re-train my brain, but definitely worth the effort in the end!

Halloween at the Hafen house is a big deal. Dan LOVES Halloween, and I have (finally) decided to embrace the holiday as he does. So- we have been doing lots of celebrating! Pumpkin carving, multiple pumpkin patches, trunk-or-treating, and getting all decked out in our costumes. It has been a really busy, really fun couple of weeks!

I’ll post some more pumpkin patch pics later after my camera battery charges… We went to some really cute ones with petting farms, longhorns and hay rides! Of course, Luke was in hog heaven.

We invited over some good friends for some soup, rootbeer floats, and pumpkin carvation.

The finished product. Ok, Mom pretty much carved the entire thing… but he took care of my lest favorite part, so I figured it was a good deal for both of us!

And Trunk-or-Treat with the ward. I have never been to one of these, and I must say- I now know why they are so popular! We had a blast (however, the pictures are limited since this is where my camera battery ran out of juice…) I’ll make sure to get some good pics tonight of all three of us in our get-up.

Fool me twice…

Ok, so I have been hacked again. They implanted a bunch of freaky links (like, to purchase Viagra and whatnot…) and took away the option to comment– what the? I am actually thinking of just opening a blogspot, now that this has happened twice.

Any thoughts? Do y’all like blogspot?

Totally Tubular

Well, it’s official. We’ll be putting tubes in Luke’s ears next week. I, for one, am most definitely looking forward to the end result of the procedure (i.e. sleeping all the way through the night again, and not pumping 4 gallons of antibiotics into my baby’s little system each day.) And, the procedure itself is not supposed to be too bad. Just some laughing gas (you think the Dr will let me share?) and practically no recovery time at all.

He has had 5 diagnosed ear infections since May, my personal opinion being that it’s never fully healed… just cleared up enough with each round of antibiotics to feel good for a week or so before the symptoms returned. We finally reached the magic number- and Luke was chosen as a perfect candidate for tubies.

So, as if he wasn’t cool enough already… now he’ll really be tubular, duuuude. (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself!)

Mr Mimick

One thing I can’t stand is when Luke runs away from me. To him, “Luke! Stop!” - especially in the middle of a crowded mall - means “Run away from Mama as fast as you can so that freaky man with the greasy beard can kidnap you!” Ok, you get my point. It’s one of those battles that I have picked. Each time he does it he gets a ‘time-out’ complete with explanation of his naughty behavior. I’ll ask him “Why are you in time-out Luke?” and he’ll reply “Wan away-fum Mama” - with no apologetic tone… as if to imply “and I’ll do it again right when I get out of time-out!”

Well, tonight we were going to get some ice cream and I decided to let Rev come along for the drive. Right when I opened the front door he spotted a cat and BOLTED! I angrily called him back and stuffed him in the car. As I was buckling Luke in I told Rev- “Naughty! Don’t run away!” to which Luke shouted “Wev! TIME OUT!” I almost wet my pants! Of course, I asked Luke “Why is Rev in time out?” - - “Wev wan away fum Mama! Nonny!” Ha ha! He has been listening!

(To preface this next part you need to know that Luke’s most favorite thing to do lately is try to startle people. He’ll run into a room and shout “BOO!” then die laughing. Even when I know he’s there he’ll still do it- and thinks it’s every bit as funny!)
About an hour later I was putting him to bed and reading some of our favorite bedtime stories. He wanted to skip several pages, and I was trying to do it in a more organized fashion… I played the “pretend to be sad” card so he would let me turn only one page at a time rather than his 5. It was then that I found out just how much like Dan he is… He got within a centimeter of my fake-crying face and said “BOO!” followed by a string of laughter. Of course I laughed too- which was his goal I am sure. He is such a nut! Just like his dad, instead of consoling he used humor to snap me out of it. And I must say, it works like a charm(er)!
